The Advocate, Louisiana’s largest newspaper, is looking for a reporter to join its investigations team. In recent years, we’ve spotlighted racial disparities in Louisiana’s criminal justice system; exposed corruption in the state’s massive prison system; and shined a light on wasteful corporate subsidies at a time of huge budget shortfalls. We’ve also partnered with ProPublica to examine conflicts of interest in the state Legislature. We’re looking to continue this work and improve on it. We’ll need a crack journalist who loves to dig and has the patience to get to the bottom of a story. The person we’re looking for will be able to juggle a combination of short-turn weekend stories and long-form enterprise work, with occasional dailies. You should have a proven track record of using public records and data to find hidden stories. Other musts: A distinctive writing style, the ability to collaborate and a curious nature.
