We seek an experienced, flexible editor to help develop customer-facing technical content to an international audience.
Edit, revise, rewrite, and proofread technical content featured in Oracle’s instructional materials, user assistance, web portals, and more. Possess excellent writing skills and mastery of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Apply corporate editorial standards to all documentation. Express ideas logically, clearly, and concisely. Support, guide, and encourage writers and developers responsible for producing content. Work effectively under tight deadlines.Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify factual, grammatical, spelling, style, and usage errors in text and illustrations.Edit documents to ensure clarity, consistency, correctness, brevity, and adherence to Oracle standards.Perform developmental edits and work with writers as needed to improve a document’s overall structure and navigation.Deliver an analysis and style sheet with completed edits as required, and be able to explain principles underlying edits to improve the writer’s long-term understanding and performance.Train and support writers on corporate standards, editorial standards, and critical writing skills.Participate in developing and maintaining editorial guidelines, standards, and terminology.Background Essentials:BA or graduate degree in English, Journalism, Instructional Design, or a related field; 6+ years of experience as an editor of technical documentation and instructional materialExcellent editorial, written, and oral communication skillsAbility to act autonomously with minimal support and supervision, and to work effectively as part of an editorial teamExperience in editing for and mentoring writers for whom English is a second languageExperience in editing for and mentoring writers in both technical and conversational writing stylesA firm understanding of the typical issues of language (grammar, usage, style), of professional and business writing (cohesion, concision, etc.), and of technical and conversational writing (writing environments and techniques)Familiarity with reference materials, such as dictionaries; guides to grammar, usage, and writing; and published style guidesFamiliarity with HTML5 and HTML5 editing tools, such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Blue Griffon, and documentation standards and tools, such as DITA, ArborText, Microsoft Office, and CCMS
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.
As a member of the technical writing division, you will organize and prepare information for publication and develop publication concepts for the best communication of subject matter. Review technical information prepared by other staff members for clarity and content. Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
